God gave me a new friend Sandy Twones last week. I was captured by his joy and 'God-praising.' When I met Sandy it was at the corner store by my house. There's are a couple of tables with benches there so I sat down for a moment and asked questions and listened. Immediately he began telling me about his life, how he just move here to Long Beach six months ago, he lost both of his parents two years ago, how he lives alone in govenment assited housing--AND HOW HE IS SLOW, SLOW OF SPEECH; BUT he told me how he loved the Lord and is grateful how God has been caring for him. There's more I could say about Sandy, but let me say this--His simple and trusting joy is contagious. Sandy came to the Rose Park BBQ and was beaming as he enjoyed the community from the edges; and even though I think it was uncomfortable for him when I invited him to take the contact list around and collect everyon's info, it was obvious that he enjoyed the sense of BELONGING as he engaged with each person heartedly. In my past I never realized--I need more friends like Sandy.
